YOU have to hand it to Michael Smurfit (and, no, I don't mean the Viagra) One thing about him is that he is as good as his word.
Recently, the good doctor told an audience of Trinity students that he was spending more time "chasing young women" -- or words to that effect.
Then, last Tuesday, he chose the Mill (and let's face it, if you want to be discreet you are hardly going to choose the Lyons Demesne restaurant set up by Richard Corrigan and the late Tony Ryan) as the venue to dine a deux with a tall, striking brunette in her late 20s, with a severe and youthful beauty.
Needless to mention, the dinner-table chatter all around was "Guess her identity."
The consensus is that she probably is a bit too Slavic-looking to be Irish. The great man himself was looking suave in a Dr Feelgood grey suit and white shirt worn sans tie.
Mr Corrigan was not in the kitchen that night, but French head chef Fred Cordonnier kept popping out to ensure that all was well with Michael and his mystery companion.
Meanwhile, Michael's ex-wife, Norma Smurfit, was dining with the Austrian Ambassador and his wife last Tuesday in the Four Seasons in Ballsbridge.
